DRAKE CRUISES TO NO. 1 BILLBOARD 200 DEBUT WITH ‘HONESTLY, NEVERMIND’ DESPITE MIXED REVIEWS

Written by on June 27, 2022

It appears Drake can add yet another chart-topping project to his discography that already boasts several No. 1s.

This week, Hits Daily Double unleashed their first-week sales projections capturing the pure sales for artists such as Lil Durk and Chris Brown, whose releases are set to debut within the Top 10 of the U.S. Albums Chart behind Drake’s dance album Honestly Nevermind.

Drizzy’s 14-track release reportedly sold 210,000 total album-equivalent units in its first week units, while CB and Durkio moved between 60,000 and 70,000 units, while Logic sold a healthy 29,000 pure sales to round out the Top 10.

While Drake’s sixth studio album, Certified Lover Boy (CLB), landed a dominant No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart last September, pushing an estimated 613,000 total album-equivalent units, the numbers attached to his latest release are nearly as impressive.

Despite the fact there’s a difference of nearly 400,000 units between the sales figures of CLB and Honestly Nevermind, the LP managed to make Apple Music history by shattering the record for the most first-day streams for a dance album. The Toronto native also garnered 61 million first-day streams on Spotify and hit the threshold of 100 million streams on June 19. Not to mention his seventh studio album will help Drake earn his 12th chart-topping effort on the Billboard 200 and also serves as his seventh consecutive No. 1 on the chart.

The success of Drizzy’s Honestly, Nevermind album arrives in the face of criticism from both his listeners and figures in the music industry such as Radio host and author Charlamagne Da God, who called the project “elevator music,” in addition to stating he’ll likely never revisit the album again.

Former Def Jam and Murder Inc. executive Irv Gotti also had a few choice words for Drake’s album, revealing to the Associated Press he was inspired to discover a new DMX after her first tuned into the release.
