Drakeo The Ruler was killed when someone stabbed him in the neck backstage at the Once Upon A Time in L.A. festival on December 18. Law enforcement is working hard on the case to bring Drakeo’s killers to justice; however, they’re hitting a hell of a roadblock.
According to a report by TMZ, detectives working on the Drakeo murder case are having a hard time with witnesses because no one wants to talk. That makes things complicated, as investigators have been using surveillance cameras and social media footage to figure out who was behind the fatal stabbing.
Since people aren’t talking, detectives are looking at the murder of Slim 400, an associate of YG whose name was brought up after Drakeo’s murder, to see if there’s any relation to the cases. There’s no official connection between the two murders, but police aren’t ignoring the possibility of retaliation.
Drakeo’s mother, Darrylene Corniel, is calling for someone to take accountability for her son’s murder. Rolling Stone reported Corniel plans on suing festival organizers for her son’s death, blaming security for not handling the situation.
“He was hit in his neck,” Corniel explained. “I saw him when I went to the hospital. They said it’s a homicide, so I wasn’t able to hug him or kiss him or anything like that. I had to look at him through a window. I need this to be out there. I need people to know. And I do want justice for my son. And I do believe that justice will be served. I will not rest until justice is served.”
Corniel managed to get some words from witnesses at the scene. She believes YG, who had an ongoing feud with Drakeo and his entourage, was behind the brawl that caused the stabbing.
Drakeo and his brother Ralfy the Plug were said to be with a small group of people at the festival when about 40 to 60 people arrived at the same time as YG and swarmed them. Corniel said Ralphy tried to assist his brother but saw he had already been stabbed.
Drakeo The Ruler was just getting back into the spotlight when he was killed on December 18. From his debut mixtape I Am Mr. Mosely, in 2015 to So Cold I Do Em 2 in 2021, Drakeo had been positioning himself as one of the leaders of the new generation of Los Angeles rappers. He was only 28 years old.
