Madonna Stans Slam Lizzo For Claiming Janet Jackson is Queen of Pop!

Written by on August 30, 2021

When not dominating charts with hits like ‘Truth Hurts,’ ‘Good As Hell,’ and her latest top 5 smash, ‘Rumors,’ singer Lizzo is no stranger to reigning over headlines for everything from eye-popping outfits to lending polarizing commentary on subjects in social, political, or Pop culture.

The latter sees her the center of conversation again – this time after a series of random tweets where she gave her stamp of who among music’s icons deserved honorific titles of royalty.

While most agreed with her assessment that Aretha Franklin is Queen of Soul, Tina Turner is Queen of Rock N’ Roll, Britney Spears is Princess of Pop, Michael Jackson is King of Pop, and others, some of her crownings caught a side eye – particularly her deeming Janet Jackson the definitive Queen of Pop.

The comment sent Madonna stans into a frenzy, not only reigniting the age-old debate about who Pop’s true female potentate but sending the topic ‘Queen of Pop’ to trending status on Twitter.

It all started Sunday afternoon (August 29) when Lizzo began acknowledging “the greats” of music.

The Grammy Award-winning American singer, rapper, songwriter, and flutist Lizzo began tweeting her opinions on who the rightful royalty of American music is. She called Usher the “king of R&B”. While many disagreed, people in the replies seemed unable to decide if the crown was meant for R Kelly or Chris Brown — the real trouble began when Lizzo tweeted about who she thought were king and queen of pop music.

“King of Pop- Michael Jackson,” Lizzo declared. “Queen of Pop- Janet Jackson. Prince of pop- Bieber. Princess of Pop- Britney Spears. The Pop princess- Rihanna. Queen of music- Beyonce.”

While Arianators (fans of Ariana Grande) and Lady Gaga’s Little Monsters jumped to add their favorite artists to Lizzo’s list, Madonna’s fans were by far the most vocally distressed.

‘You spelled Madonna wrong [smiley face],’ one fan joked, while another advised the star to ‘open a book.’

‘Lets start with first lesson, modern music history for women is divided in two eras according to critics and academics: before Madonna and after Madonna,’ another fan replied.

Despite sparking controversy by referring to Janet as the Queen of Pop, the member of the iconic Jackson music family has enjoyed great success as a solo artist.

In addition to earning five Grammy Awards, the Rhythm Nation singer has sold over 180 million records during her career.

She has also made the jump to Hollywood with roles in Poetic Justice, Nutty Professor II, and Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married.

Janet became a first-time mother at age 50 following the birth of her son Eissa.

The singer shares him with ex-husband, the Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana.

As for Madonna, according to the guiness book of world records, the Material Girl holds the top selling female artist position with more than 300 million records sold and is referred to as the Queen of Pop for many decades.

Whether your a fan or not, both women Janet and Madonna continues to reign supreme in Pop Music (periodt).
