Marlon Wayans met both Biggie Smalls and Tupac just moments before they were shot

Written by on March 31, 2023

Marlon Wayans has just revealed that he had been speaking with both Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur just minutes before each one was shot and killed.

Marlon was on The Late Late Show with James Corden this week when he was asked about his appearance in a famous photo of Biggie and Tupac posing together before they famously fell out.

He explained that he was friendly with both rappers, and even had a heart-to-heart with both of them just moments before they died. Take a listen:

Explaining how he met arguably two of the biggest rappers in history, Marlon said that he had just starred in Above The Rim (1994) with Tupac, who had also been friendly with Marlon’s best friend Omar Epps.

“And so Pac was out performing at Glam Slam, which was Prince’s old club downtown, and Biggie was performing that night”, Marlon explained.

“So, that night I met Biggie and Pac, and they shared the stage. They were really cool and hanging out and smoking weed together, it was a great night. And then a couple of years after that, they started beefing.”

Things went south between the two rappers in November 1994, when Tupac was invited to Quad Recording Studios in Times Square to work on a project with Biggie, but was shot, beaten, and robbed before he could make it inside.

Tupac was convinced that Biggie was behind the shooting, which was only further fuelled by Biggie’s song ‘Who Shot Ya’.

Tupac and Biggie’s fallout quickly became one of the biggest beefs in music, and eventually led to a full-scale East Coast -West Coast hip hop rivalry.

Marlon told host James Corden that he had been there the night that Biggie was shot dead in March 1997.

“I’d seen Biggie at a Vibe magazine party and he was like: ‘Yo, I’m proud of you guys, you know, you’re family. I like what ya’ll are doing, ya’ll are legends’, and he said ‘keep doing what you’re doing kid.'”

Ten minutes later, Marlon said he heard gun shots and Biggie Smalls was dead.

“Here’s the crazy thing”, he continued. “I see Tupac in Vegas at the Luxor – it happened to him.”

Tupac was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting in 1996 in Las Vegas after attending a Bruce Seldon vs Mike Tyson boxing match. Marlon explained that he met Tupac at his hotel after the match.

“I went in and saw him 20 minutes before, gave him a hug, said ‘I love you, brother, good seeing you’.

“Me and Omar got in the cab, Pac had all those people around him, he got in his BMW and he was looking at us like: ‘I wish I could get in that cab with y’all’, but he got in that BMW… 20 minutes, later he was shot.”

After telling James about the bizarre coincidence, Marc Maron, who was also a guest on The Late Late Show this week, got up out of his seat to get away from Marlon, but the actor assured him: “It doesn’t apply to white guys, you’re good!”
