One of Councilman White’s significant achievements is the establishment of White Environmental Management Services, which has provided environmental waste management and consulting services to various clients since 1999. His extensive experience in this field gives him the expertise and knowledge to serve the people of Merrillville effectively. He has also been a solid waste specialist for the Lake County Solid Waste Management District since 1996, where he manages and administers the district’s $2.9 million-dollar curbside recycling grants program and other recycling initiatives.
Councilman White’s certifications further prove his commitment to environmental management. He is a certified Indiana Class IV Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, a certified Indiana Class D Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator and has a Solid Waste Collection Manager Certification from the Solid Waste Association of North America. He is also a certified member of the United States Compost Council, which showcases his expertise in composting.
Councilman White’s experience extends beyond environmental management. He has acted as the Superintendent and Process Control Manager for the Gary Sanitary District, where he supervised and coordinated the activities of shift operation managers, plant operators, and other assigned plant personnel. He also developed an internet-based system capable of tracking the solid waste generation habits of Lake County’s population, making Lake County the first in Indiana to apply this type of technology county-wide.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Councilman White is involved in various high-profile environmental groups and government agencies. He has participated in a documentary about the history of the dunes with several local high-profile environmental groups and federal and state officials, including Congressman Pete Visclosky. Councilman White’s education includes an associate degree in environmental science from Ivy Tech College, a Wastewater Treatment and Technical Math Course from Ivy Tech College, and Environmental Law Courses from Calumet College. He has also taken a Public Speaking class at Indiana University.
