Former Baltimore police officer James Weems Jr. has been sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of sexually abusing children at his ex-wife’s daycare.

James Weems Jr. Sentenced To Life
On Monday, April 14, the retired officer was officially sentenced, according to online records for the Baltimore County Circuit Court. Additionally, the sentencing arrived after Weems was found guilty of rape, sexual abuse of a minor, and showing obscene matter to a minor last November.
As previously reported, his ex, Shanteari Young, reportedly shot him back in 2022 after learning about his actions. Court documents show the victims attended his ex-wife’s daycare, Lil Kidz Kastle.
Young, who was sentenced to four years for shooting Weems, testified against Weems during the trial. She was not allowed to tell the jury she shot Weems after learning about the allegations against him. Her attorney reportedly said, “Ms. Weems did something that she felt was worth it to protect those children, and she’s been held accountable. Now, it’s his turn.”

More Details On His Case
James Weems reportedly came in contact with the children as he drove the van for the daycare. Weems admitted to looking at pornography while he took the children to school. However, he claimed he didn’t purposely show the children the imagery or touch them. Weems was charged in 2022 with molesting four children at Lil Kidz Kastle Daycare Center in Owings Mills, Maryland, according to WUSA9. One of his alleged victims was only 10 years old at the time of the abuse, reported the outlet.
The allegations against Weems came to light in July 2022 when his victim, who is now 13, was caught watching pornography and claimed that Weems previously showed it to her, CBS News reports.
