Two Kids, A Stolen Cop Car & A Wreck In Arizona

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the teen driver reportedly crossed the median on Interstate 40 before correcting course and speeding off at over 100 miles per hour. The twist? Officials say the car belonged to the Flagstaff Police Department and was taken sometime before 1 a.m. on Tuesday. The ride ended in disaster when the vehicle hit a guardrail, rolled multiple times, and slammed into a tree. Additionally, the crash was so intense that the steering wheel was ripped off and thrown 50 feet from the car.

“The impact was so severe that the steering wheel broke off while the vehicle was rolling, and was ejected approximately 50 feet from where the vehicle landed,” the police department revealed.

Miraculously, both children survived with non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital. Authorities later revealed the 13-year-old’s blood alcohol level was 0.183 — well over twice the legal limit for adults, and way over the zero tolerance required for underage drivers. The young driver is now facing DUI charges, and the incident has sparked a serious conversation about underage drinking, joyriding, and parenting in today’s world.

Officials Speak Out

Now that the dust has settled, officials are speaking out — and the message is loud and clear. Authorities are urging parents to speak with their kids about the very real dangers of drinking, driving without a license, and engaging in risky behavior. Let’s keep it real — this could’ve been a tragedy.

“We’re thankful the kids are okay, but this could’ve ended way worse,” DPS said in a statement. “Juvenile joyriding and underage drinking are extremely dangerous. Talk to your kids about the dangers of drinking and unlicensed driving.”
