Attendees also included Viola Davis, Ryan Coogler, and his widow, Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman, for a heartfelt tribute. As previously reported, the ‘Black Panther’ actor died in 2020 at just 43 after quietly battling colon cancer for four years.
Heartfelt Tributes Highlight Boseman’s Legacy
The emotional ceremony was filled with sentimental speeches reflecting on Boseman’s life, career, and the impact he left behind. Davis recalled working with Boseman on ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ just before his untimely death at 43. She shared how he constantly engaged her on set about the “cap of success” and the deeper conversations people have when they sense their time may be limited. She described Boseman as a “mighty mighty elixir” whose presence inspired those around him and guided her toward greater purpose.
Ryan Coogler, who directed Boseman in ‘Black Panther,’ praised the actor’s leadership, generosity, and ageless charisma. He shared a humorous story about Boseman sneaking past stars and press during a ‘Creed’ press tour just to meet with Coogler about ‘Black Panther.’ He joked, “I asked him how he got past everybody and he smiled and said, ‘That was the Panther.’” Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman closed the ceremony with a heartfelt message to her late husband, honoring his artistry, courage, and devotion. She also invited his brothers to help unveil the star, cementing Chadwick’s legacy as a hero on screen.
