John Legend on Kanye West: Private Conversation, Yes — Public Reunion, No

John Legend is drawing a clear line with his old friend and collaborator Kanye West. In a new conversation with Complex, Legend said he would take a private conversation with Ye — but a public reunion and new music together are off the table.
Legend was careful to say the issue is not personal. His concern is the harm he believes has been done to the Black and Jewish communities, and he said an apology in a magazine is not enough to close that chapter.
The two artists built classics together, from Get Lifted era collaborations to some of the defining soul-rap records of the 2000s. Legend’s stance shows how far things have traveled — and how much would have to change before the music could ever come first again.
