O’Shea Jackson Jr. Jokes He’ll “Call Mom” Over ‘Last Friday’ Role

The funniest casting story in Hollywood right now is a family matter. O’Shea Jackson Jr. says nobody has contacted him about a role in Last Friday, his father Ice Cube’s long-awaited fourth Friday film, and he let the world know exactly how he plans to fix that. Reacting on X to the news that Lawrence Lamont will direct the movie, Jackson wrote that he has not received any emails or calls from his agent about the project, then delivered the punchline: “I swear to God, I will call mom.”
Jackson is Cube’s oldest son with Kimberly Woodruff, and audiences already know he can carry the family name on screen. He broke out playing his father in the 2015 N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton, then built his own résumé with Ingrid Goes West, Den of Thieves, Long Shot, Just Mercy and Cocaine Bear. Fans fully expect to see him somewhere in the new film, which makes his public “still waiting” post land even funnier.
The movie itself is moving. Last Friday is the fourth entry in the comedy series Cube co-created with DJ Pooh back in 1995, and Cube is writing, producing and starring. The production will shoot in Southern California with more than $11 million in state tax credits behind it, but New Line has not announced a cast, and Cube has not said whether his son will appear.
For now, the joke stands, and it fits how Jackson has always played it. Back in April he laughed off the “nepo baby” talk over Ride Along 3 by saying that if he ended up in that film, it would be 100 percent nepotism. This time, the casting call may just have to go through mom.
