According to reports, the incident went down on January 7 at a 24-Hour Fitness in Spring, Texas, just outside of Houston. Police say gym employees called for help after a verbal argument between two women escalated into a physical altercation. Investigators allege Martinez recognized the other woman as someone her partner had been involved with. And let’s just say…things quickly spiraled from there.
Weighted Plate Allegedly Thrown In Shocking Gym Attack
Authorities claim the confrontation turned violent when Martinez allegedly grabbed a weighted plate and hurled it toward the woman’s head in an attempt to cause serious harm. While officials haven’t confirmed whether the plate actually struck the victim, it was enough to warrant serious concern. Police haven’t disclosed the weight or material of the plate, but they emphasized that an object like this can become deadly depending on how it’s used.
Martinez was detained at the scene and later identified as a resident of nearby Humble, Texas. She was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault, with her bond set at $1,000. Investigators say the case is still active, and it’s unclear whether additional charges could be added. Furthermore, it’s also being questioned whether surveillance footage from inside the gym will play a role in the investigation.
