According to officials, the situation erupted early Tuesday morning after a mother contacted Elk Grove police, terrified for the safety of her children. She reportedly saw home security footage showing Morales assaulting their 11-year-old son. When officers arrived, they found the boy suffering from stab wounds. He later passed away in a hospital. Additionally, his 6-year-old sister was unharmed.
Authorities say Marvin Morales had already fled the home and was later spotted driving southbound on I-5. What followed was a full pursuit involving multiple agencies. The chase ultimately ended near Lodi after the California Highway Patrol deployed a spike strip. Officers shot Morales shortly after the crash, and he later died at a hospital. Elk Grove police also confirmed he was the suspect in the fatal stabbing — and that he was a 40-year-old former Sacramento County sheriff’s deputy dismissed from the department in February 2024 for illicit drug use.

“When I come back from dropping off my girls, we heard all the sirens, and then the neighbors started talking about what’s going on, and how they heard the little girl screaming outside,” revealed Gallegos. “It’s just really sad. I assume they were on their way to school just because I had finished dropping off my girls. And I think they all go to the same school.”
