Jay-Z Writes Letter Backing Lil Durk’s Bail Bid

Written by on October 28, 2026

Jay-Z is standing up for Lil Durk in court. The Brooklyn mogul wrote a personal letter that was filed as part of Durk’s bail package, asking the judge to reconsider the Chicago rapper’s detention ahead of a bond hearing set for November 4.

In the letter, dated October 12, Jay-Z describes Durk as kind, respectful and focused on his career. He also points to Durk’s deepening faith and praises him for signing young artists from his own community and giving them a real path into the music industry.

Durk has been in federal custody since October 2024. A jury acquitted him on all five counts in his first trial on September 11, but he remains jailed on separate pending charges, to which he has pleaded not guilty.

Sony Music Entertainment has backed the bail package with a guarantee capped at $1 million, while prosecutors are opposing his release. The November 4 hearing will decide what happens next.
