It’s really happening — the final Friday movie just got its director. New Line Cinema has tapped Lawrence Lamont to direct Last Friday, the fourth film in Ice Cube’s classic franchise and the first new Friday since Friday After Next in 2002.
Ice Cube wrote the screenplay and returns to star and produce. Lamont directed the hit comedy One of Them Days with Keke Palmer and SZA, and he came up directing music videos for Big Sean, J. Cole and Nas.
The production has also landed roughly $11.4 million in California tax credits, with about 40 filming days planned in Southern California and Cube looking to employ more than 180 local cast and crew members.
Full casting has not been announced yet, but with a director locked in and production ramping up, the last Friday is officially moving.
