Black Ski Weekend in Flagstaff, Arizona, has become the center of conversation after a TikTok series accused a Black travel group of seemingly setting up participants for a less-than-comfortable, chaotic getaway. Some travelers are saying that the excursions the group advertised are not what they ended up getting.
But are the allegations true? And what really happened?

According to Carter, a woman named Zakiya’s three-part TikTok series on what allegedly went down at Arizona’s Black Ski Weekend has amassed over three million views to date. Per Zakiya, an ad claimed that if she paid $1,500, she and her husband would receive round-trip transportation to the weekend event, along with excursions and private suite lodging.
“A suite is very different from a hotel room. A suite typically has a living space and then separate living quarters, and it was advertised for a group of four people,” Zakiya told TikTok viewers. “We get there, they give us the rooms [and] it’s a motel setting.”
Per Carter, the space was a double queen room, which Zakiya and her husband were allegedly expected to share with another couple. Furthermore, a website check apparently showed that the two queen-sized beds, not suites, were listed in the package.
Next on Zakiya’s list of complaints was the on-site spa, which she says, was falsely advertised. Additionally, she alleged that the group’s morning yoga session was held in the hotel lobby.
“They’re doing downward dog where people were eating breakfast,” she alleged.
Was It A Scam?
Zakiya alleged that the group “false-advertised everything from the suite to the Nordic spa.” However, Emmanuel Jones, the lead organizer of Black Ski Weekend, told Carter that Zakiya’s claims are “fabricated.” Additionally, he shared that he believes her claims are possibly meant to “harm” his brand.
