Roommates, this one is heartbreaking. Tonya Charisse-Annice Johnson is facing serious charges after a devastating incident in Detroit where her 11-year-old son accidentally shot and killed his 6-year-old sister. And, this was all while their mother was allegedly inside picking up a DoorDash order. The story has left social media stunned and raising questions about parenting, safety, and firearm storage.

Tragic Shooting Occurs Kids Left Alone In Car

According to police, the incident happened on March around noon in a parking lot on the 9700 block of Harper Avenue. Johnson, who works as a DoorDash driver, reportedly left her five children — ranging in age from 2 to 11 — alone in the vehicle. Authorities say an unsecured handgun was inside the car, which her 11-year-old son accessed. Furthermore, he ultimately fired the weapon and fatally struck his 6-year-old sister in the head. Emergency responders arrived around 12:06 p.m., but the young girl was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Prosecutor Details Heartbreaking Trauma For Surviving Children

During her virtual court appearance on Thursday, March 5, more details emerged about the case. Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor Aniela Bosca described the situation as “negligible” on the mother’s part. He emphasized the life-long trauma the surviving children — including the boy who fired the gun — will experience. Bosca said, “There is going to be life-long trauma that this young man is going to suffer as a result of shooting his sister.” He continued, “Knowing that he killed her, the other children that were in the vehicle watching this happen, and this was negligible.”

Mother Tearful As Charges Pile Up Against Her

Johnson appeared tearful during the hearing, with her defense attorney stating, “Nobody feels worse right now” than the defendant. She has been charged with three counts of second-degree child abuse, failing to securely store a firearm resulting in death, and four counts of felony firearm possession. She is scheduled to appear in court again on March 13 as the investigation continues.
