According to an autopsy report obtained by PEOPLE, the Fulton County Medical Examiner has determined Nathan Smith’s cause of death to be “drowning in the setting of psilocybin use,” and the manner of death has officially been ruled an accident. Authorities state that less than a month after a body believed to be Smith’s was discovered in a retention pond on Friday, Feb. 6, toxicology results revealed the presence of psilocybin in his system. The report describes psilocybin as a pharmacologically active hallucinogenic compound commonly found in hallucinogenic mushrooms.
Under the pathologic diagnosis, officials confirmed that Smith’s body was recovered from a retention pond near the family home. The report also noted signs consistent with water immersion, including wrinkling of the hands. The findings close a chapter filled with speculation, officially classifying the tragic incident as accidental.

Authorities were initially called to the Baldwin Drive area on the morning of February 3 regarding a missing adult, noting that he had left his residence under unusual circumstances, which sparked an immediate search involving multiple agencies.
Following the tragic discovery, Lil Jon honored his son as an “amazingly talented young man” — a music producer, artist, engineer, and NYU graduate. The rapper shared that he takes comfort in knowing he always expressed his love for him and also thanked the Milton Police Department for their dedicated efforts.
