HOA Nightmares: Florida Mom Accuses Her 5-Year-Old Of Being Targeted | TSR Investigates
Written by 96motero on October 8, 2025
Ariel Barner, a single Black mother of five children in Florida, says she lived in her neighborhood for only six months before her HOA began targeting her children. Ultimately, she reportedly received a violation notice from the HOA. This, reportedly, because her 5-year-old son “swung on a tree while waiting at the school bus stop.” The notice referred to Barner’s son as a public nuisance and ordered her to pay a $382 bill. But Barner isn’t the only one to complain about allegedly being targeted in her community. Black homeowners across the country are sharing their experiences.
So what really happened with Ariel Barner and the HOA? And what’s really going on in these communities?
Now, The Shade Room’s Justin Carter is delving in on ‘TSR Investigates.’
Here’s What Reportedly Happened With Ariel Barner, The HOA & Her 5-Year-Old Son
According to Barner, on September 23, 2025, she received a FaceTime call from her daughter, who was in tears. The girl reportedly explained that an older woman had yelled at her 5-year-old brother, Owen, ordering him to stop swinging from a tree. Per Barner, after she received the FaceTime call from her daughter, she followed up directly with the older woman, who is also the president of the community’s HOA. Furthermore, Barner asked the woman to reach out to her directly with any complaints or concerns about her children.
Then, days later, she reportedly received a legal notice from the HOA, calling her son a “public nuisance,” and noting his actions as a violation of community policies. Furthermore, Barner was fined.
“My HOA, as of today, is seeking to start legal action against my 5-year-old for touching a tree and touching a rock,” Barner subsequently explained to viewers on TikTok. “… I’ve never had any problems… never had any written complaints. I’ve never had any warnings…”
Furthermore, the notice reportedly detailed the HOA’s intention to pursue action against Barner if she didn’t comply with the HOA’s requests. However, when a local news outlet reportedly requested a statement from the HOA’s legal team, it reportedly alleged that the $382 fee was only optional for Barner to pay.
