NLE Choppa Reveals Why He Called Out NBA YoungBoy
NLE Choppa recently sat down with Rolling Stone following the release of his new song ‘KO,’, where he takes shots at NBA YoungBoy’s character. In the track, Choppa speaks on how he feels YoungBoy’s music has “corrupted many listeners.” Despite the strong message, he made it clear that he doesn’t he hate YoungBoy, he simply wants him to make different choices. Choppa said now was the right time to drop based on a power beyond him. “What made the time now is a power higher than me,” he said. “I was awakened out of my sleep with a vivid dream.” He went on to describe the vivid dream that inspired the song.
“I was awakened out of my sleep with a vivid dream. The dream was me holding a young boy’s head in my hand, and I was bringing the head to my father,” he said. “When I woke up, I wanted to pray about it and seek what it meant.”
Choppa said at first he thought the dream was a nightmare because of how graphic and disturbing it was, but after praying on it, he says he realized it carried a deeper spiritual meaning. Additionally, the rapper explained that the dream and the song were never meant to come from hate, but from spiritual guidance. “The timing wasn’t mine , it was a power higher than me,” he said. “I never want my devotion to be questioned, so when I got the message, I followed it.”
He pointed to the third verse of ‘KO’ as one of his favorites, highlighting the line “You poison the youth. You poison the youth,” Choppa said. “And that was the way I started it off because we’ve been oppressed for a long time, and I feel we add fuel to the fire by not knowing our influence and being conscious of that in general…”
Choppa made it clear that his words weren’t meant as a personal attack on NBA YoungBoy, but rather on the spiritual and external forces in the industry. He continued, saying that YoungBoy himself has admitted to being aware of his influence.
“I’ve heard interviews from him that he’s vocalized that he’s conscious of what he’s doing,” Choppa said. “And I have no problems with him … but that’s the part where my assignment comes in…I’m conscious of it. I know you can’t continue to consciously choose a way that’s indifferent to the most highs.”
