Florida Woman Allegedly Drugged Her Disabled Great-Granddaughter In Attempted Murder-Suicide Plan

According to a press release from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, deputies went looking for Collier on Monday, December 29. This, after she reportedly left her home and left a suicide note found by her family. Furthermore, deputies located her vehicle and performed a traffic stop. Per the release, Collier was inside her vehicle with her 13-year-old great-granddaughter, who reportedly was “unconscious in the passenger seat.”

During the traffic stop, Collier reportedly told the officer that her granddaughter was sleeping.

“However, deputies discovered white pill residue on her and found her totally unresponsive to stimulus,” the release adds.

Afterward, the 13-year-old was transferred to a hospital while the investigation continued with Collier. In the woman’s purse, deputies reportedly found “prescription medication bottles and another typed note which indicated Collier was ending her and her great-granddaughter’s lives.” This, reportedly due to “the stress caused to the rest of the family.”

More On The Charges Against Deborah Collier

Per the release, deputies learned that Collier’s great-granddaughter requires 24-hour care, and the woman and her husband have been the 13-year-old’s sole caregivers and guardians.

“The constant demands of caretaking have contributed to significant stress in the family. Collier was opposed to the idea of the victim receiving care in an assisted living facility and said she believed that no one would care for her like family. In her desperation due to these hardships, Collier made a plan to end her great-granddaughter’s life, followed by her own,” the release explained.

Ultimately, Collier was taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail and is being held without bond. Additionally, the release asserts that she has been charged with “attempted first-degree murder.” Lastly, the release asserts that her granddaughter is now in stable condition despite taking “pills Collier fed her to end her life.”
