Jealousy, Threats, And A Baby Shower Gone Wrong

Chile… things went from messy to terrifying in Kansas when Dominic Thomas, 19 at the time, allegedly tried to drown his pregnant girlfriend over baby shower photos she posted on Facebook. The drama allegedly started after another woman he was secretly seeing spotted the pictures, sparking jealousy, threats, and a deadly confrontation that ended with Thomas being sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Court documents reveal just how dark things got before the attack. Thomas reportedly sent chilling texts to the teen, writing, “I sick of living knowing ur in my life so imma do sum bout it… It ain’t a threat it’s a promise. And not gone give a single f— about the consequence.” The 17-year-old mother-to-be responded with a heartbreaking warning: “If my heart stops so does his,” referring to their unborn child. Thomas allegedly dismissed her fears, claiming, “No he won’t.”

Walk By The Pond Turns Deadly

Police reports describe the terrifying events leading up to the attack. The day before the incident, Dominic Thomas allegedly contacted the teen to “go for a walk” and met her at a local pond in Wichita. What started as a 20-minute conversation reportedly turned deadly when Thomas claimed he “did not want to live anymore because he was lonely.” He even told her he had eaten an entire pizza as his “last free meal” because he was going to jail.

The teen recounted a struggle where Thomas allegedly grabbed her by the feet and head, dragging her toward the water. She screamed for help, pleading with him to stop, fearing she’d lose her life—and her baby. At one point, she lost a shoe, and Thomas allegedly continued dragging her into the pond, holding her head under water with one hand. Miraculously, she survived. Thomas later told police he stopped when she mentioned their child, saying that thought “got to him,” but he admitted he initially wanted to drown her because of the other woman.

From Thomas’ Warning Messages To Courtroom Verdict

Before the pond attack, Thomas confessed to police that he had sent threatening texts to make sure she understood he “would actually follow through.” He reportedly said, “Did you think it was a joke?” and admitted that while he had no initial intention to carry out the attack, once they were at the pond, he decided to follow through with his threat.

Thomas, now 24, faced a four-day trial in 2024, which exposed a chilling pattern of threats, deceit, and attempted violence. On Wednesday, he was convicted of attempted first-degree murder and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
