Prayers Up! Severe Storm & Flooding Devastates NYC, Leaving At Least Two Dead(VIDEO)Prayers Up! Severe Storm & Flooding Devastates NYC, Leaving At Least Two Dead(VIDEO)

New York City is no stranger to wild weather, but what unfolded on Thursday left the city shaken — and tragically mourning. What started as a heavy afternoon rain quickly spiraled into chaos across the five boroughs. Plus, flooded streets, halted subways, and turmoil left some residents fighting for their lives.

Record Rainfall Leaves New York Underwater

According to reports, the storm dumped more than two inches of rain across Brooklyn and Queens in just a few hours. Additionally, this triggered flash flood warnings throughout the city. Videos spread of cars nearly underwater, subway stations turned into waterfalls, and New Yorkers in knee-deep water trying to get home. Furthermore, the chaos even spilled into the skies as over 1,200 flights were canceled nationwide.

Deadly Floods Claim Two Lives Across New York City

As reported by NYPD, two men lost their lives in separate basement flooding incidents as torrential rain overwhelmed parts of Brooklyn and upper Manhattan. In Brooklyn, a 39-year-old man was discovered unconscious in a submerged basement apartment. First responders from the FDNY’s Scuba Team managed to recover his body, but he was eventually pronounced dead. Hours later, tragedy struck again uptown in Washington Heights, where a 43-year-old man was found lifeless inside a flooded boiler room. Authorities are still investigating both cases as the city tries to come to terms with another deadly reminder of its growing flood dangers.

Storm’s Deadly Reach Extends Beyond New York

And, it wasn’t just the Big Apple feeling the storm’s wrath. In Philadelphia, the severe weather claimed another life when a woman was killed after a tree fell onto her car. Meteorologists have confirmed that this deadly deluge wasn’t linked to Hurricane Melissa, which battered the Caribbean earlier this week. However, blame is being put on an inland system that swept across the Northeast. While the city begins drying out, New Yorkers are once again reminded that when it rains, it pours. And sometimes, the cost is heartbreakingly high.
